LA Breaks Boycott Again, This Time to OK SuperShuttle

Ed Reyes (CD-1, which means he is the first CD in your CD changer, because you love using your CD changer in 2010.)

The City Council voted today to approve a contract with Arizona-based SuperShuttle, providing yet another exemption to its boycott of the state passed in May.

Councilmembers reasoned that because Supershuttle, which takes passengers to and from LAX, pays the city money, the contract approval does not violate the intent or spirit of the boycott. “We don’t have any funds going into Arizona, that’s key,” said Councilmember Ed Reyes, who co-authored the boycott.

I don’t know, Councilmember Reyes. You’ve just ok’d the city doing business with a company based in Arizona. That means you’re supporting an Arizonan business through official council action. You can slice it a million ways, but at the end of the day you’re still helping an Arizonan business. That might not be in direct violation of the “boycott” in your eyes. But if that’s the case, you probably wrote the worst boycott ever: one that’s pure political posturing.

Last time it was stoplight cameras. Now, SuperShuttle gets Arizona its piece of the LA pie, despite being in clear conflict with the May boycott of the state.
